Grand Theft Trouble

By Robby Clark

Though it only launched a few days ago on April 29, Grand Theft Auto IV is already under fire—only this time, it’s not because of content. Multiple forums, including Gamepro, Gamespot, GameFaqs, and Kotaku have been flooded with wounded gamers who say that their copies are defective. Player complaints seem to center around claims that the game consistently freezes during cinematics and online play. Some posters have even said that the game has affected their systems, causing issues in other games as well. It’s currently unknown what the cause of the issue is, as well as how many are affected, and there is no correlation pertaining to one system—both the PS3 and 360 versions seem to be equally affected.

Gamepro posted on their website that they forwarded their users’ complaints to Rockstar, GTA IV’s developer, but haven’t really received any response—other than a Rockstar representative who remarked, “I feel terrible about this.” He also said that the company is aware of the issue and is currently working on a solution.
