Best Buy and Netflix pick up Blu-Ray

By Eddie Pritchard

In the battle between high definition movie formats HD-DVD and Blu-ray, Blu-ray appears now to be the winner.

Blu-ray is not only being backed by several major Motion Picture studios, but consumer electronics giant Best Buy announced that their stores will heavily market and make more room for Blu-ray products starting in March this year.

Best Buy is not the only one to make such announcements about supporting Blu-ray, but online movie rental company Netflix has also decided not to promote HD-DVD. Blu-ray supporters are backing the HD format because Blu-ray disc holds more digital data than HD-DVD. The extra data would allow more room for special features, games, and bonus material.

Now everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon. Toshiba finally decided to kill their productivity of HD-DVDs and Microsoft Corp will stop making video players based on the HD DVD standard for its Xbox 360 game system.
